*siiiigh* (then again, any guitar with revered.!!) I can manage to get a very nice sound out of it. gain max and treble near min on the guitar, on the amp, increased treble, lowered mid, increased bass, and some pretty hefty chorus. This amp does incredible things to this guitar's sound, but it takes a LOT of fiddling. I play through my church's Fender Acoustisonic Junior. it really comes down to what sort of sound you're looking for. This is my personal opinion, but it sounds rather tinny and trebly, especially in contrast with transducers and onboard mics.
very reliable, but nearly impossible to get a truly natural acoustic sound out of. *ELECTRIC* Ginger's got a very standard under-the-saddle piezo pickup which functions as it should. however, it has an almost overly bright sound as a whole, and lacks in the bass - mid end. The pickup solves that problem, if you've got an amp around :) The high end on Ginger is very nice and clear-sounding, almost clean electric guitarish.
This guitar (lovingly christened Ginger) has a very distinct Ovation sound, but does not have much projection, which is a definite problem when just playing acoustically with a bunch of people. But then, after a really cheap student Yamaha with old strings, anything would be. This instrument ships with PRS Classic 10-46 strings and a PRS SE gig bag.*ACOUSTIC* At first, this guitar seemed like heaven to me. Other design features include the PRS Silver Sky inverted headstock shape and the PRS double-acting truss rod (accessible from the front of the headstock for ease of use). This guitar is anchored by a two-point steel tremolo, synthetic bone nut, and vintage-style tuners.

The 635JM “S” pickups capture the same round, full tone with musical high end that is never too harsh and add a bit of a bite. The SE Silver Sky comes in four colors: Dragon Fruit, Ever Green, Moon White, and Stone Blue.Īt the heart of the instrument are the three single-coil pickups, which were meticulously designed to capture the voicing of the original Silver Sky. The 22-fret, 25.5” scale length neck features the original 635JM carve and an 8.5” fretboard radius, which will make the SE Silver Sky feel right at home. The SE model starts with a poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood fretboard with PRS trademark bird inlays. The PRS SE Silver Sky is a familiar iteration of Mayer’s signature model, which was first introduced with John Mayer in 2018.

The bass response won’t threaten nearby dreadnoughts’ egos, but it’s still respectable. Meanwhile, the medium-depth bowl features top-edge electronics with a remarkably easy-to-use tuner, a volume knob, and bass, mid, and treble sliders.Īcoustically, the AE44II has all the hallmarks of the Ovation brand: a balanced sound great for strumming, along with amenability to nuances of gently fingerpicked passages. The neck’s slight-V profile and semi-gloss finish are super comfy, as are the uniformly beveled fret ends and rounded nut edges. The AE44II’s spruce top features an understatedly rustic “vintage varnish” finish and impeccable construction. Even so, the Chinese-made AE44II-VV is one of those bargain flattops that’ll force longtime players to rethink their snobby, dismissive attitudes.
The Ovation family’s composite roundback design has always been a polarizing point: It can be quite comfortable, but it can also lead to awkward instrument movement during play.
